ricksrj58 273 #1 Posted March 21, 2010 i have never had a engine with a fuel pump so heres my stupid question lol, the onan has a fuel pump, will it matter if the gas tank is above the engine? i do not know if the gas would flow thru the pump and flood the engine. :omg:
gwgdog66 23 #2 Posted March 21, 2010 The fuel pump won't allow the fuel to flood the carb or engine, when it is off. Unless the internal diaphragms go bad. Knock on wood, I've only had one go bad on me.
TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #3 Posted March 21, 2010 Fuel pump or not, it's the float needle and seat in the carburetor that restricts or stops the flow. Fuel pumps normally have "check valves" to keep the fuel from draining back through the line if the tank is below pump level.

300zx 7 #8 Posted June 29, 2010 Ricksrj58, I just joined and saw your post. I am preparing to put a 520 engine in my C-121-8. It looks straight forward to me except for the PTO. Can you give me any advance warning on the things I am going to run into and have you adapted the PTO yet?
fireman 1,022 #9 Posted June 29, 2010 Here is a link to my thread here on Redsquare about my C-81 that I dropped an Onan 20 into. Check it out as it has a lot of info about the swap. http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/index.php?...topic=15853&hl=

300zx 7 #11 Posted June 29, 2010 Rick, thanks for the welcome. Fireman, I read your thread. Excellent job and very interesting! Did the Pto link up with the C series controls OK?
fireman 1,022 #12 Posted June 30, 2010 It did link up but I was able to buy a rod from a 520 and I used that. It is a little different than the stock one.
TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #13 Posted June 30, 2010 Did the Pto link up with the C series controls OK? The pieces from a 416 (Onan-powered) machine are exactly what you need. It's basically the same as what you're building - except for the very top section of the hoodstand. (and the obvious other sheetmetal differences)
