ezrstl 0 #1 Posted March 11, 2010 I have a 1076 with a side discharge. It is replacing my rear discharge Charger V8. I really like the rear discharge and was wanting to know if any has converted a side discharge to a rear and how well it worked. Thanks!
mowerman1193 42 #2 Posted March 11, 2010 I am not sure how well it would work..I also like the rear discharge over the side discharge..My brother made a side discharge out of a rear discharge deck a few years ago..He claimed that it worked but not great..I was mad that he did that too cause I would have traded a side discharge for his rear discharge.. I would think you would be better off at least trying to do a swap with someone first..As a last option give it a try I guess.. Kevin

HunterdonNJ 1 #5 Posted March 11, 2010 Several advantages! 1) never have to worry about grass clipping in mulch beds 2) If your don't clean all the fallen sticks or winter stones you don't have to worry about replacing windows in the house because of them being wipped out the side. 3) without the side shoot you have can edge close to things in both directions. 4) Can cut in much wetter grass without glogs Dissadvantages 1) doesn't lay the grass out across the lawn for better looking cuts 2) must mow more often or it looks like hay rows For beauty you can't beat the side discharge but for speed and a get-er-done lawn, you can't beat the rear discharge. My opinion, Jonas
mowerman1193 42 #6 Posted March 11, 2010 Please can you tell me what is the advantage , rear vs side ? To add to the above post... The side discharge decks do not mow as high as a rear discharge deck..I like to have my grass a little tall so it will stay green longer through the hot summer..The highest setting on a side discharge deck is at best 2 3/4" - 3"..And on a rear discharge highest setting is around 3 1/2.. W9JAB 156 #8 Posted March 12, 2010 I like the rear discharge in leaf season, to grind up the leafs, then shoot em into the sweeper.
mavfreak 11 #9 Posted March 12, 2010 I like the rear discharge in leaf season, to grind up the leafs, then shoot em into the sweeper. I like that also saves gas and time being able to just pull the sweeper behind you as you mow
