HH100 Stator Help

Save Old Iron

Anyone have an HH100 (or similar) Techy engine with a 10 amp stator system ??

I was trying to help diagnose a possible bad stator coil. Some confusing and conflicting info is out there on the internet. The Techumseh HH100 manual says the charge coil stator winding should be about 400 - 450 ohms to ground. Ed Stoller's website states about 130 - 140 ohms. I believe the 20 amp system probably measures 130 - 140 ohms but Ed's site is not that specific about the stator version.

If anyone has a 10 amp system , its a quick measurement. Just disconnect the stator wire to the Solid State Ignition module and measure with an ohmmeter from ground to the stator coil wire terminal.

FYI - the coil we are measuring shows 2 - 3 mega-ohms (way too high - essentially and open circuit) so we know the stator has to be closely inspected to be repaired or replaced. Grounds are clean so it appears the charge coil windings are open or highly resistive.

B) in advance.

Hi Chuck -

Just got time to ck out my Tecky HH100 on the Raider 10

Did as you said and got no reading - meaning open circuit when cked.

Checked both wires from the stator. Mine has disconnects at the motor . so unplugged there & cked each one to ground and no reading B)

Hooked back up and ran and it charged ok .. ruffly 9-10 amps at hi RPM

So don't know if this helped you or not

Let me know if you need any other tests done

Thanks Chas,

just to clarify what i wanted to measure

there is a possibility a diode is soldered into the stator.

in that case, a high meter reading would be seen . If the meter reads high or OVL, reverse the meter leads on the block ground and stator wire ( black to stator wire and red to block ground).

See if the readings change to a much lower ohms value.

thanks again, just helping out a friend thru a long distance fix so I might need your patience on this one.

B)
