Electro12WH 50 #1 Posted March 4, 2010 I have a '74 B80 and two decks. One is a 36"RD and a 42"RD. Which deck would you use?
CasualObserver 3,411 #2 Posted March 4, 2010 How often do you mow? I ask because I currently use a 42" deck on an 8HP tractor, but if I let it go to long between mowings I have to take it pretty slow, thick grass bogs down the deck and 8HP is almost not enough to churn through it. If you tend to let things go tall and thick between mowings I'd say you'd be better off with the 36.

sorekiwi 761 #6 Posted March 5, 2010 I agree with Jason here. I have a 36" deck for my B-80 and although I've never tried the 42" on it I think it would be too much for it. Having said that though, the grass I cut is very thick and has a lot of thatch. I need to mow at least once a week during Spring and even the 36 struggles in the thick stuff. The 36" deck is my best mowing deck though, so I have used it a lot around the house and in the tighter spots. For the other 1 1/2 acres I use the 42 on a 14hp auto. This summer I hope to be using a 48" on a 520. It is amazing how much quicker it is to finish the mowing with the bigger deck. That extra 6 inches really adds up!
