Polaris2007 4 #1 Posted March 3, 2010 So after some deliberation, I have a deal in the works where I will end up with my first ever hydrostatic 'Horse. It is the 1972 Bronco 14hp that I was asking about in an earlier post. The guy says the engine is great, just had it rebuilt a few years ago. The issue is that he says sometimes the transmission is slow to engage. He says you have to let it "warm up" before it will move, and sometimes you move the lever back and forth, and nothing happens for a bit, then it slowly starts to move, and then it is fine. he says he has lived with it like this for years. Do these symptoms sound like something simple, like oil level to low, or dirty filter? Or does it sound like a more serious issue? I know it's hard to diagnose from a written description? but what is your gut feeling here? Should I be nervous? B)
rickv1957 74 #2 Posted March 3, 2010 It is possible that an oil and filter change will help,or maybe needs relief valves and springs checked,Rick
Kelly 1,033 #3 Posted March 3, 2010 Gut feeling is it would need to be cheap, then take a chance, you might fix it cheap you might put a trans in it.
Polaris2007 4 #4 Posted March 10, 2010 Woo Whoooo!!!!!! So as you guys have seen from my pics in my other post about my newly aquired Bronco 14, I decided to do the deal even though the hydrostatic tranny is very sporatic, and seemed to have issues. After reading an older post in the tranny section about a tractor with similar symtoms, I took the cover plate off and checked the little bushings and sliders on the direction control lever linkage. The bushing was extremely worn and sloppy in it's motion. when I actuated the valve manually with a screwdriver, I got full speed and power in forward and reverse!! BEAUTIFUL!!!! This site is AWESOME!! I took a gamble on this 'Horse and it payed off. And so the restoration begins.........
