Sickle Bar Mower Question

Recommended Posts

Did Wheel Horse, Haban or anyone else make a sickle bar mower to fit a 520H? If so, does any body have a model number, or better yet, one to sell? Thanks

If I'm not mistaken, the sickle bar mowers were set to the wayside in the late 70's. I'll bet that if you can find one from an early letter series tractor that it should fit up with some minor tweaking. Did they make one new for the 520? No.

There isn't a way to make Sickle Bar Mowers idiot proof. With the government pushing

safety it just wasn't worth while to keep making them for lawn and garden tractors.

I work one summer in the early 60's assembling Eddleman Lawn Mowers made by a local machine shop.. They were only made for a few years after that because of the safety issues. I still have one my dad bought in 1958 and use it to trim, and mow ditches ever time I mow. I had a man that moved in about 1/4 mile up the road tell me how dangerous they were, he fixes and sells old lawn mowers.. I didn't tell him that I had assembled a couple 100, started and tested them. I just smile as I was looking at his jerry-rigged table saw with out any safety equipment.

I believe that any sickle mower off of a c-series 73' and up should fit

a 520 but don't quote me on this

I had a Haban that would fit a 520. Can't recall the model number right now but maybe Rollerman will chime in, he has one too.

I have lived on a small farm all my life. We have a new holland 9ft( i think) sickle bar mower on an farmall H. Yes they are dangerus as any mower is. but the goverment wants everything idiot proof. I had for a while a walk behind gravely with the sickle bar mower on front of it. I had man stop one day and tell me that he lost his finger in one of these. I asked how and he said a stick got stuck and he went to pull it out and it cut his finger off. I ask how it could do that if it wasn't running. He looked at me and said he didn't shut it off. Idiot. Anyway I had sold the gravely but have been looking all over for a mower for my horse. good luck on finding one.
