stevebo-(Moderator) 8,531 #1 Posted February 25, 2010 Here is my part of the haul that Fireman and I bought this week. It is a 1956 RJ with a K90 Kohler. I spoke with two collectors that are very knowledgeable about the early model RJ's and one said the kohler k90 was not offered on the 56 and the other said it was. My other question is this.. can anyone confirm if this color K90 was original on the 56 or should I just assume that this is a replacement? Everything is here and I have the original mower deck for it but is not pictured. I will post a pic of that later. I think I am just going to try and somehow remove the smiley face painted on the front of the hood and get the new coil in it and get it fired up. Steering is very tight and everything seems to be there.

Kelly 1,033 #4 Posted February 25, 2010 Ok there they are, I'm far from a expert but I have a few replacment engines that are that color, and gray ones, I cant read the ID tag.
stevebo-(Moderator) 8,531 #5 Posted February 25, 2010 Kelly, they are there now.. One other thing that I just thought I would mention is the difference in the color of the subruban 400 and the 56 RJ. Both have original paint but they are so different. This is a great sid by side example for members to see.

Suburban 550 28 #12 Posted February 25, 2010 Real nice find, Steve. It makes you wonder how many more old horses are laying around in old dealers attics or shops. You don't find too many as complete as that one. Good luck with it. B)

wallfish 18,086 #15 Posted February 26, 2010 Stevebo, If that motor has a Bendix coil you are not going to find one and if you do, all the epoxy on it will be cracked. You can have it rewound though. There's a guys web site that talks about these coils but I'll have to find the link. He also rewinds them. Maybe we can get a multible discount because I need one done too. Or, you can swap the plate and flywheel with a K91 to use the newer style coils. OOPS I almost forgot---- NICE score!!!!!!!!!

VinsRJ 723 #18 Posted February 26, 2010 Did some searching on your Spec Number and came up with nothing. With the paint color I would agree to it being a service replacement.
