evan4434 0 #1 Posted February 23, 2010 I am looking at a D200 with a new 25hp motor, 48" finish mower, and snow blade for $1,500. What can you tell me about these mowers? Also I can get a 48" snow blower for it for $150. How are these mowers with a snowblower ect.. How do they compare to a 520H? Thanks
Rideawaysenior 25 #2 Posted February 23, 2010 First of all, The D series tractors are quite a machine. The engine on yours if a 25hp is a non factory replacement. The pump coupling and transmission are the achillies heels of these tractors. The pump couplings after time will wear and strip. NOS parts are available but you have to really look for them. The tranny depending on the year of manufacture can also have a weak spot. The differential housing bolts can have a tendancy to lose their nuts and the bolts can back out. The nut seems to always find its way under the diff gear and that will push it through the trans casing. I have an older D160 that works fine though. It was driven off of a 12 foot wall by the previous owner. All he did was roll it back onto the wheels and drive it back to the garage. That was after his trip to the hospital via helicopter. They are really tough machines though if kept up. I use mine to mow, plow snow and roto-till several acres of land. It never misses a beat. Don't let the above scare you. Althought these things are the most common issues they don't always occur. If you pick it up, you will have a good tractor and a goor resource here at this site for help and parts. Don1977 605 #3 Posted February 23, 2010 A new 25 HP engine is worth that much. Not much way you could loose even if you couldn't fix it.
DoctorHfuhruhurr 137 #4 Posted February 23, 2010 Is that the one in Kansas Craigslist? It looks nice. Is the replacement engine a name brand or clone? If it's a clone I would just check around to see if you're able to get parts for it.
evan4434 0 #5 Posted February 23, 2010 Ya it is the one in KS. I don't know if I will get it or not, maybe someone will buy it before I even look at it. I just wanted to get some info on it. If it had a mid mount mower I would be all over it. I have a lot of trees to mower around.
Rideawaysenior 25 #6 Posted February 23, 2010 Mowing around trees is another down fall of this machine I forgot to add. It sounds like I'm knocking the D here, but I'm really not. Stout machine, great fun to use but you need a football field to turn it. It's not a trim mower by any means. Just a good worker. You'll have popeye's right arm from moving that motion lever back and fourth from tree trimming.
defed 0 #7 Posted February 24, 2010 if you were closer (i'm in WNY), i'd make a deal with you for a mid mount deck/rear finish mower swap. the snow blower works really well. the tractor is heavy enough so it doesn't get 'pushed around' while blowing. it is only a single stage blower, so it has some limitations, but still, i really like mine. i only have a D-160, and could use a little more power, so 25hp should be great. pfrederi 18,655 #9 Posted February 24, 2010 Is the finish mower a wheel horse mower??? I thought they were all 60 inchers. (They were made by Woods and parts (at least some of them are available from them)
tbbahner 28 #10 Posted February 24, 2010 Soounds like I should have looked at this instead of the C160 I recently got. Just not familiar with D's. Looks like a nice rig. Would be a beast. Good luck if you go for it. Where you located? Tom B
Rideawaysenior 25 #11 Posted February 25, 2010 The D's had a an option of a belly mounted 48in deck, a rear 60in deck that ran off of the rear PTO that was made by Woods, and the D250 had a belly mounted 60in deck. Jack
