6wheeler 669 #1 Posted February 23, 2010 Hey fellas, I need some help here. I am trying to remove the 3/4" pin that holds the drawbar on my c165. It also holds the suitcase weight bracket and I need to take it off to put on a clevis hitch. I tried soaking it with rustbuster, then used my air hammer. I tried heating the casting and pounding on it, to no avail . I'm about out of ideas... That is one stubborn little bugger I'll say . Any ideas, I don't really want to heat it anymore. whfan74 2,071 #2 Posted February 23, 2010 haasman on here gave up on saving one and told me he slowly drilled a hole in the middle of the pin. This helped relieve some of the pressure on the sides and allowed it to be taken out much easier. Of course you are out the pin and would have to get a new one but even a little pounding on the end of that pin will mushroom it and then make it next to impossible to slide it through. tgranthamfd 29 #5 Posted February 23, 2010 Might try getting a good bite on it with a pipe wrench and putting some pressure on it, when you heat it up he next time. Never heard of that on here, but that is how my brother got his loose, of course he sprayed the crap out of it all day with Pb blaster, too. Good luck. tgranthamfd 29 #6 Posted February 23, 2010 Another tidbit, we also used a center punch on the pin to keep from mushrooming the end out. If you have a big brass rod to use as a driver, it will help keep the damage to the pin minimal. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

If it is on then you may want to try and pin it against something so when you are hitting it will not move. Next is to heat it up real hot then try and drive it out. If nothing then pour cold water on it when it is hot then trying again. sorekiwi 761 #12 Posted February 24, 2010 There is quite a few threads on this. I've done it all, heat, air chisel, drilling the centre out of the pin... Now I just use the sawzall. Cut the pin between the hitch and the transmission on both sides. You need to be a little careful, but its done in about 2 minutes. Every one I've encounted has been stuck in the hitch and not in the transmission. I have had to use a press to get the piece out of the hitch. But every time the piece in the transmission has come out relatively easily. When pounding on the transmission, hit it towards the thicker side of the case. Gene_S 93 #13 Posted February 24, 2010 Like Scott was saying I cut the pin between the hitch and the transmission then I drill a 1/2" hole all the way thru. Then I have a sawsall blade that I cut down so it would fit in the 1/2'" hole and cut thru the pin to the casting. Once this cut is made the pin relaxes and you can drive it out pretty easy.
