Audioshot 2 #1 Posted February 22, 2010 The PTO on my 1992 310-8 works great but I was wondering if the PTO bearing's need any special maintenance (oil, grease)? It's the one part of my tractor that I haven't opened up. Also, does anyone know what the engine shaft diameter and length on my engine is? I checked Kohler's site and can't find anything on it. Here is the engine spec: Engine: Kohler Magnum 10 (1991) Mod: m10s Spec: 461521 Ser: 2003002333 Thanks for your help Chris
Duff 206 #2 Posted February 22, 2010 Chris, I haven't got my Kohler Service manual here at work with me to check the shaft dimensions for you, but I have heard or read somewhere that it's a good idea to grease the PTO bearing every so often (50 hours sticks in my mind but don't hold me to it!). Getting at it isn't all that difficult. I think any good grade grease would be acceptable. Duff B)
Audioshot 2 #3 Posted February 22, 2010 Thanks Duff, I took it all a part this morning and the friction disc, bearings and seal were in great shape. I cleaned out the old grease in the parts tank and repacked the needle bearings with a EP2 Grade 2 GC-LB Lithium Complex Grease. While the PTO was off, I measured the shaft and it is a 1 1/8" x 3 3/4". That PTO is good for another 18 years! Thank you again.
