D160 binding up

When I run at full throttle and hit a hill the tractor seems like it is binding up and almost stalls till I reduce throttle.Seem ok when cold.Changed the oil and filter,took out the acceleration valves,they were not plugged.Seems like it is engaging reverse and forward at the same time.When throttle back it is ok.First hydro I have owned.Is this normal?Pulling it in nuetral does not help,just throttle back then ok. B)

Is there any other valving that could cause this?Maybe in the motor assy?

Yes it is possible the drive motor can be bad instead of pump,Rick

Anybody got an idea how to tell if the pump or gear motor is going bad?Got the hydro manual.Will the pump pressures tell whats wrong?Still runs great and have used it all winter to plow snow.

Does your hyd lift still work correctly,if so I would lean towards the drive motor bypassing oil therefor the noise,Rick

Yea the lift work fine.May take off the motor when the snow quits and take a look.Your saying the oil is going through a bypass valve?Or leaking past the pump pistons causing a backpressure on the cylinders in the motor?It only does this when running hard.

Ok guys this should give every body a good laugh.After changing the hydro pump,hydro motor,filter,adjusting the shift linkage,took head of to look for scored cylinder,all ok and nogo for the problem.

Talked to an old Wheel Horse guy at Snider Toro sales,he says did you check the the point gap?I said "He$$ no what would that have to do with it!"

Well it has everything in the world to do with it if they are set to .029".

Set them to .020 ran the crap out of it all week end could not stop it.Too much gap too much spark advance hence motor starts to fight itself on load.

Now have a good pump and hydro motor for spare,and all that great ojt on the D160.Slammed head several times now feel better.And D160 runs as it should.Also got the carb to idle after raising float and set jets to factory spec.

A complete tune should be first when starting on an old tractor.But it ran so goood up to a point.Asume asume.Had a new coil!Oh welllllll.Hope a lot of people read this and save a few weekends for other endeavors.Stupid is as stupid does.At least stupid ran out when I stumbled on the problem."Asked the guy at Sniders".
