Question about a K161 that I picked up today

Howdy,

I picked up a Kohler K161 today. The serial number is 749903 and the spec number is 28937E. I have a feeling it might have origionally been on a WheelHorse, it even has the right pulley on the crank but thats purely speculation on my part. It has a rope starter, not a recoil starter just the one where you wind a rope and pull.It also looks to be origional to the engine. Could anyone tell me what I have and if it is off a Wheel Horse? I looked in a couple of places and the spec number is right but it says it should be a K161T and mine says only K161 with no letter following it.Does anyone have any ideas what I have here?

According to this site http://www.kohlerplus.com/login.asp it was a Wheel Horse engine.

Thank you , I appreciate it. I do my best to try to find answers to my own questions before I ask, but I came up empty.Thanks to your help I know why now.....didnt notice the advanced search function. Thanks again for your help, little by little Im learning valuable reference sources. Now I gotta do some digging and see which model it came on.

I look closer at the ID tag and it is a K161T so now Im not so confused. It looks like it was on a 704.I was mistaking the hub on the flywheel for a rope starter, when I looked closer at the shroud , sure enough the mounting holes for the recoil starter are there plain as day. I didnt get to look at the engine really good because for once it was raining and I was just wanting to keep it from getting rained on. So it appears I need to locate and buy the recoil starter for it.

You can buy new recoils fors it, they arent quite like the original but they are still availaable gor about 80 buck through Kohler
