Wheel Horse GT-1600 Snow Chain Problem

Recommended Posts

peerk

I've been having a problem with the snow chains on my GT-1600. The right rear chain is rubbing underneath the fender to the point that it is shearing off some of the links. Is this a common problem, or is something underneath the seat misaligned causing this rubbing?

Anyone know anything about this?

Thanks,

Doug

I had the exact same problem with my GT-1642....after looking at it for a while, I realized the hub had slid farther onto the axle, to the point that the inside of the hub was resting on the transaxle housing. The outside of the hubs are supposed to be flush with the end of the axle shaft. I had to loosen the two set bolts on the hub, pound the hub back out, and tighten the set bolts again.

Hope this helps.

I'm thinkin the hub has slid inward also. Be careful with any "pounding" as you dont want the whole axle coming out. Try a puller first with plenty of penetrating oil.

Good luck with the fix.

So I was the original poster above, and I had a local mower repair guy work on my GT-1600.

He said that there is def "play" in the axle - so I guess the whole axle is sliding in and out - and he said we should be careful not to use the mower on a hill where it would be tilted to one side.  Shouldn't this be fixable, or can't we put some type of "spacer" between the wheel hub and transaxle body?

can whlvr

how much play  does it have,a little is normal,a little more than 1/8 inch, maybe a 1/4,it should have no up and down movement,if the axle moves more than I stated your retainer clip on the inside may be worn,or the groove it rides in,ya you could run a spscer to get by but make sure the axle cant slide off,and also check that its not the hub moving as opposed to the axle
