bk-scouter 93 #1 Posted February 10, 2010 I just got in from clearing off the driveway, and I begin to dream about spring... Anyways, I have a chance to go check out a used tiller for sale (model #79370) that I want to use on my 314-8 this spring. What should I look for in these things? I've never owned one before so I'm very interested in what you experts have to share. Thanks! -BK

bk-scouter 93 #7 Posted February 10, 2010 Make sure you get the idler assembly and belt, along with rear bracket and lift helper spring, check seals for leakage,Rick From what I have been told and seen in a couple pictures sent by the seller, it appears it's all there. I'll try to keep a mental note when I go out an see it. The gearbox(?) looks a little moist with oil, so I'm not sure if it is just a leak or possibly something more internally ? I have a manual lift on my 314, and he's not sure if he still has the lift cable around, but am I correct in assuming I will need one of these along with the cable tube? (my 1999 tractor model #73449) I'll have to check on the pointy tine suggestion. Anyone have a picture of a set that's in good shape so I can compare them?? I appreciate all the help here guys. Please add more suggestions if you'd like to... -BK
lae51967 18 #8 Posted February 10, 2010 I have one on a C-series, and I need the cable tube and lift cable. I assume its the same setup. Lift assist spring helps some, 50/50 on if I put it on or not. The belt for mine is 188", special order when I needed one. There should be a shorter spring for the belt tensioner, can pick one up at any hardware store though. Mid mount pully/tensioner a must otherwise unusable. I have to take the top of the PTO engagement bar loose to put the belt on because the belt runs pretty much straight down to the mid-mount assembly and has to be in front of the lower part of the PTO bar. Probably not the right tiller for the tractor but I make it work. A word of advise is to put a pin in the axle mount after hooking tiller up, it can bounce around pretty good depending on ground hardness, mine managed to work its way out of the mounting bracket one time. Didn't hurt anything but just something you don't want to happen.
