Battery Not Charging / No Lights

The amp meter on my 1996 314-8 shows that the system is not changing and the headlights don't work. Anyone have some ideas about trouble shooting?

Check the fuses first. You may want to include the year of the 314 also.

The first thing I would check is the switch.

I modified my post and added the year after nylyon posted. I think I might have used to much compressed air and got some dirt in the fly wheel area.

That shouldn't really affect it. I had the same problem on the 314-A I'm currently selling. Replace the fuses and move them around a little until it starts to charge. My lights don't work unless the engine is running.

Charlie is correct. That Kohler uses a lightning coil to run the lights which are AC and the engine has to be running. My 1985 312-8 is the same way. You may have a corroded fuse which will cause a problem like was said above.

Good luck.

A 1996 314 has a Kohler M14 Magnum with a 15 amp charging system. The lights work off of battery power.

I HAVE A 1990 I JUST BOUGHT AND THE LIGHTS A BATT GUAGE DIDN'T

WORK EITHER. THE 15 AMP FUSE WAS BLOWN. AFTER CLEANING FUSE HOLDER

AND NEW FUSE IT WORKS FINE. NOTE THAT THE BATT GUAGE DIDN'T WORK

WITH THIS FUSE BAD AS WELL AS THE HOUR METER DID'T WORK EITHER.

Thanks for all your help. I cleaned out the fuse housing and everything went back to normal.
