416-8 electrical problem

Recommended Posts

Just thought I'd post this FYI for anyone else having an electrical problem with a 416-8. Was blowing snow on saturday and of all times it goes dead. I mean nothing.

Did they old "jump out" all the safety switches and still nothing. Began to wring out all the wiring on it and found had continuity from starter to plug under the battery ,and continuity from the starter switch back to this plug. Put them back together but never got anything back to the fuse block. Took it apart again and really cleaned them up good. Tried again and we're blowin snow again B) Found that the battery box drain tube wasn't connected and there was water in the box when I first started this job. Only thing I could see was water must have dripped down on the plug and shorted out the positive lead. Thought I'd post this for anyone having same problem. It's not always the safety switches. Love this old girl, sure saves a lotta wear and tear on the old butt
