TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #2 Posted February 7, 2010 It costs about twice as much to rebuild the Kohler than it does to rebuild a small block Chevy. Maybe you should think about putting a 350 on your Wheel Horse. Seriously though..... purchase or download the TP-2379 Kohler manual and you shouldn't have any problems. If you do, post them on this forum. One suggestion from me..... remove the balancer gears and throw them in the trash.

Jim_M 179 #9 Posted February 18, 2010 I am begining a rebuild on a K341 16HP from my C-160 and also would like to know more about the balance gears. What is the reason behind getting rid of them and what replaces them? Thanks Some people call them grenade gears because they've been known to come apart and destroy an engine. They're also almost nearly impossible to time without having the special Kohler tool. Nothing replaces them, they just sit on 2 pins in the crankcase. Throw them away, you'll never miss them.
