1974 D200

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I got a 1974 D200 it has an electric fuel pump on it. When they key is on this thing just keeps pumping fuel into the carb. Is this the setup it came fom the fatory with or is there supposed to be something different? The fuel pump is mounted near the top of the engine.

Any advice you can offer is appreciated

Thanks in advance

It should have a vaccum fuel pump. Many were converted to electric due to excessive crankcase pressure from worn rings. Mike

I've had a few D's & an off brand with a Kohler K482 twin that used electric fuel pumps.

Basically you want the electric pump working at the same time the coil is powered.

Both the D's & the off brand I had used mechanical fuel pumps that had failed or grown weak.

Replacement parts for Kohler fuel pumps are NLA & the electrics are in the same price range as a new mechanical replacement.

When I bought my D, came with an electric diaphram pump that quit working and I found a replacement at NAPA. It only runs about 4-6 lbs and the float valve is strong enough to hold it back.

Is the gas flooding the carb? If so, maybe you need a new float valve in the carb. B)

I can send you a pic and model number of the pump that I got, it seems to work great.

Thanks a part number would help for sure, right now it is wired so that whenever the key is on it's pumping gas into the carb, I know the one of there says something about for use on an 8 cyl engine B) so maybe a new pump wired to the coil or just the way it is will work.

Thanks forall the replies

Did you replace the pump and it is now flooding the carb or did this just start? If this just started, then I would lean towards a carb issue, like a sticky float valve. It maybe time for a good cleaning/rebuild.

Here is the info on the electric pump:

They told me the same thing in that it was for a V8, I said the same thing but it works, here are some pics of the unit with Part# and mounting:

Mine is mounted on the Right Side (sitting on tractor), the Positive is tapped into the wire for the coil and accessories and I just grounded the Negative on the mounting bolt.

Good Luck.

Find out how much pressure the old vacuum pump was supposed to put out and the see if you can find a electric pump that put's out about the same then you should be alright.I had to do that on my Cushman Trackster. B)
