C-161 Muffler source?

Recommended Posts

rodco

I have a C-161 with factory Exhaust. I can see it has been welded and is rusty. It is also quite loud. I have several questions:

What is the best source for a new muffler?

Do I need a muffler and a pipe?

Do I have to buy a Kohler Muffler?

Does a quiet muffler reduce power?

The only attachment I have is a FEL.

I think the replacement Kohler part # is 4706815-S , does this sound right?

The engine model # is K341as

Thanks

Robert

Assuming that your C-161 has this muffler:

and you want to keep your tractor true to original, this muffler is still available from Toro for about $130.00.

You may occasionally see one on eBay, and other RedSquare members may have some in stock, but I have not been able to find anything like it in a after-market brand.

As far as other parts to mount it, standard hardware and pipe can be used and found at your local hardware or auto parts store.

I agree with the other guy about keeping it original......

the toro part number is 106918 over the counter cost to you is $179.48

and this will make you sick....dealer cost is $111.50

so if you know any local dealers personally this helps.........

I am a little shocked at the price for a tin can that is made for a specific tractor.. Ouch.

This is not a show tractor, so I don't mind an aftermarket pipe/ muffler.

I do have a Front end loader, so I have to be careful where I mount it.

I did find this one:

$128 muffler

Does the factory muffler sound quieter?

I was going to recommend mowpart.com too. They have about the best prices I have found on the web. Shipping is a little high for me in Maryland since they are in TX.
