jaydeer 14 #1 Posted February 5, 2010 looking at a very clean gt2500 silver anniversary edition. Has anyone purchased one of these lately? WHat I have heard is they are not very rare, poor engine and do not carry an extra value even though they have a nice shiny sticker, in which case I would guess 300 - 350 would be about the max it is worth. Any thoughts.
bitten 134 #2 Posted February 5, 2010 It would be hard for me to pay that much for a briggs, just me though.

wh500special 2,262 #4 Posted February 5, 2010 I'm not sure I'd agree about the Briggs being a poor engine. My personal experience with 11-hp B&S singles have been fantastic. I have 4 of them currently in various tractors. They may not be quite as long lived as a cast iron Kohler, but that doesn't absolutely make them worthless. We have an all aluminum one with 1700 hours and it still runs great, has plenty of power, and is an extrememly reliable starter in all kinds of weather even after sitting for long periods of time. In 20+ years I've replaced the spark plug a couple times, cleaned the carburator once, and replaced an oil sump gasket. I must be one in a million, but I've had less trouble with all of my Briggs engines combined than with almost any single one of my Kohlers or Tecumsehs (let the lynching begin). That said, I do realize that a cast iron K-series Kohler engine is pretty much the benchmark for long term durability. There is just so much extra meat built into them that they can be serviced and reserviced over and over again. But if this GT-2500 is going to be a second or third tractor for you and you don't plan to use it all day every day for the next ten years there should be no reason that Briggs will diminish the tractor's value or usability for you. The only real strike against them - in my mind - is that they have that goofy PTO bearing and support plate behind the PTO pulley that must be installed properly. That GT-2500 is every bit the tractor a C-101, C-105, 310-8, etc. is. If you want it and feel you'd pay $300-$350 for a similar C-series in that condition just do it. The GT-2500 was another one of those "let's use up the leftover parts" tractors, but it did mark the 25th anniversary of WH's incorporation so it does have some collector appeal. I think they were the last of the old square hood tractors. They aren't particularly rare, but like any of the other individual models WH made (WH made lots of different models) you may not find another one WHEN you do decide to look for one in the condition you want to get. I guess all I am saying is, give B&S a chance. Steve
rickv1957 74 #5 Posted February 6, 2010 I would add one to my collection for 300.00 if it was a very nice tractor,Rick B)
jaydeer 14 #6 Posted February 7, 2010 Thanks for the input all. I decided that since it was going to be a second or third tractor that it would be OK to add it to the stable. All right a 23rd tractor but who's counting! FYI purchase price was 300.00 and the tractor was clean enough to warrant that.

GT. 1 #15 Posted November 7, 2019 I have owned and worked my GT2500 for 10/12 years now . It was my fathers tractor. The 11hp Briggs runs strong and has plenty of power. Ive also worked on small engines since I could walk. So I maintain it very well. I mow 3 acres all summer , run a snowblower through the winter , and till the garden in the spring . Personally i dont see many of these . id buy another one if it came along .
