That depends on the machine you are working on. Which do you have?

Regulators can be had off of eBay by the dozens. Short of the rotor windings and rotor contacts (a good machine shop can true the rotor contacts for you if they are not beyond repair) being bad, the generator can be rebuilt; kits also available off of eBay and most mower shops. The starter/generator is a rotor, a set of contacts, a few bearings, and a stator case. Not much else there to go bad.

There are only a limited number of issues which can make your starter generator itself go "bad". All it is is a motor. I would suggest you troubleshoot your electrical/charging system to identify the culprit:

You arent going to find a Brand New Kohler K-181. They are not made any longer. You may however be lucky enough to find a new old stock engine, but it would be a long shot. Your best bet is do a rebuild or find a good core and rebuild, they still make OEM rebuild kits. by the way :banghead:

Chevy, not to be rude, but jgun45879 asked the original question then you jumped into his topic and started asking your own questions. :banghead: His question may or may not have been answered to his satisfaction. If you have questions, start your own topic and we will be glad to help you if we can. Otherwise it can get real confusing real fast........
