If we are talking about the gasket for the 63/64 two-piece tanks, they should be available from your Toro dealer for about $18 and you wont have to pay shipping.

The toro ones are made from thick gasket paper.

Why does everyone look for stuff on ebay before they check with their dealers?

Sorry Chaz, I didn't mean to sound like a grumpy old man!!

I'm just amazed at these guys on ebay that are selling stuff like shifter boots for double what you can get them from at the dealer. Headlight lenses are another one, and now these gaskets. And people are buying them without checking the price!

I buy everything I can from my local dealer - usually his prices are a couple of dollars more than one of the online parts warehouses (for example RCPW or Milacalawn etc) but then I don't have to pay shipping so in the end its cheaper.

And I like to support a local business, and I want him to still be around in 6 months time when my mower belt breaks on Saturday afternoon and I need to mow now!

Be prepared for a fight when you go to install that gasket - its real easy to break the bolts that have been growing in the aluminum for 47 years. There are a number of threads here detailing various members experiences.

EDIT:

The part no. for the gasket is 4452, I remember having trouble finding it last time I needed one. They're listed at Milacalawn for less than $18.

After repairing mine I used some Hirsch gas tank sealer as well for extra insurance, that two piece tank was a godawful design and I didnt want to risk screwing up the new paint with a fuel leak.

So far so good (about 2 years now...)

Chaz, click on this link: http://www.toro.com/home/index.html

On the lower right side click on the Dealer Locator and go from there. It might surprise you how close one is. Of course he might be like mine and not stock anything and put an ordering charge on parts......... . Then I order online. Good luck.

Hi Mike,

I'm not sure you actually wanted an answer, but I'll answer anyway. :banghead:

First and foremost, ebay is open 24x7. If you're looking for something at 9:00 PM or on a Sunday afternoon, the dealer is not an option.

Second, I had a bad experience with my dealer, but not related to WH/Toro products. They also carry Stihl and I needed a carb kit for a chain saw. I went to them and found that they did not have it in stock. It was about $40 and I ordered it, thinking that the extra I paid for shipping would get it to me in a day or two. It was over a week before it came in. It turns out I could have bought the same kit (but branded Wahlberg instead of Stihl) for $10 from an Internet dealer. I might have found the same thing on ebay. It was particularly insulting to me that they charged $7 for shipping something that came in with their regular order.

You can bet this dealer is the last place I'll be looking for parts in the future. (Carol Stream Lawn and Power.) I registered a complaint with Stihl and apparently they do not care since I never heard back.

Another thought is ask someone on the site to check their local dealer for parts. Our local dealer will order anything for me even if it's listed NA, sometimes that works because they'll check other dealers stock to see if they have it.

It's saved me on a rebuild doing that before. KT 19 series 1 rods are hard to find !

Duane (with my thought for the day)
