K301 head gasket...what is involved

Recommended Posts

truckin88

All my C-120 could use a head gasket, as it is wet at the head bolts. This is the original motor, it probably has 2000 hours on it, been in the family since new. I ordered the head gasket, what is involved in this job? Anything normal hand tools can not fix. Any recommendations. Thanks. Motor is a K301

Will,

So long as nothing is warped you should be able to unbolt the head, clean up the carbon on the piston and head then put the new gasket on and bolt it back up. You want to make sure you torque it according to the specs and correct torque pattern. Good luck-

I have done it with sandpaper and a piece of glass, not the most exact way, but it

has saved the day on a few "low budget" jobs.....You hold even pressure on the head as you move it in a figure 8 on the sandpaper, with the sandpaper on the glass. I don't say it is the best way, but if you are careful, it will work.

Or machine shop can mill and true head at a reasonable cost.
