Home made snow cab

Recommended Posts

can whlvr

Well i been watching all u guys with cabs and i am really envious,up here in ontario i have never seen a wheelhorse cab, unalone one for sale,i saw someone here had used plexiglass to build one,so i go to the store and priced the plexi and came home with none, too much cash right now,it still hasnt snowed here except once,a long time ago,so im working at one of my contract jobs and i see this pile of stuff, looks to be garbage to them,i ask and yes it is garbage,a bunch of angle iron from shelving and low and behold 5 large peices of plxi glass, and there was even a bag of nuts and bolts, this seems too good to be true,my lucky day, here is some pics of my first try at a home made cab,i didnt drill any holes in the wheelhorse and 5 bolts takes it off,im not done yet have to close in the front,it was tricky because the c160 needs to open the tool box and the hood has to open, but i think i got it,im gonna paint it red and linen for the c 160,i have a wiper from a boat with only one blade, perfect for this cab,ill post updates later004-8.jpg003-8.jpg002-12.jpg

Make sure you back off the tip of your drill so you dont crack your plastic. Dull drill for plastic. Sharp drill will Crack it.

I'm actually thinking of doing the same thing and never thought of that type of metal. Good idea if you don't have welder or torch. ! question, if it is already mounted isn't the cross bar in front of the steering wheel a little close to the hand when you turn. Will follow the entire thread to see how you finish it. AS always keep the photos coming.

That's a great idea and a lucky find, Don Good things come to those who wait. :banghead: I have found things a few times that I was looking for, but not in a hurry or not wanting to spend the money. Last year, it was a 14 foot fiberglass canoe. I was looking for one, and I found one on the tree bank...knocked on the door...the guy said he was moving and I could have it. Had a small hole in the bottom which I fixed. Patience always pays.

thanks guys, the cross bar is not as close as it looks, there is plenty of room, thats funny stuff chuck,i do have a welder and when i am satisfied that this cab will work,i will weld it up and paint it,the mecanno type angle iron is handy because you can move and adjust before weldlng,or you can leave the bolts in place, the hood just opens so i can check the oil,i might even borrow some of dukes heating ideas,i live in the country and really dont need blue snow lights, but some additional lighting would be handy,i had the blower on the 414 because the lights are far better than the c160,but the c160 has hydro lift and i personally didnt like the c160auto to plow with, too many levers and controls to use at one time, thats my 2 cents, thanks

well here is an update, she works great, its warm and dry in the cab,got the wipers working also, got to tie up some loose ends like a sterio from my boat, and yes dunk the cross bar is close now when i drive i will have to figure some thing because the hood has to open which it does now and the tool box also,i had some magnetic sheets and this seals off the fenders, remember the fender moves when you open the tool box so this comes off easy,i also had magnetic strip with adhesive back and used this on the door,im gonna put lots more screws in it and we will see how it lasts for free and some time.

Don, you have some very innovative stuff going on here. The wheel weights look very good too.

I like the idea of the magnetic strips on the skirts of the cab.

You have inspired me to think about bending 1 inch metal conduit tubing for the current cab I'm rebuilding. I'm a 2XL kind of guy and need a few more inches in the cab area. Custom stretch cabs.

So maybe we could go into business for Big and Tall Wheel Horse Snow Cabs ??

Keep us updated cause it lookin good ! :banghead:

i did some more to the cab tonight, sealed up the floor boards with some 1/4inch rubber, attached it to the angle and it is heavy enough to stay in place and wont hurt the tractor hahaha, like u could hurt the paint on this ole girl, and i put a heat duct in,it works but im n ot sure if i need it,tonight its minus 23 celcius about minus 4 your temp and i was out driving around in a hooded light jacket and light gloves, when there is no wind its really easy to feel warm, ill post pics tomorow, its gonna be real cold tomorow too

I've been thinking about a cab for my C160, but I,m in the 2X weight division myself so I was wondering if I could get in and out of the regular cab. Maybe a custom built size is the way to go, keep the pictures and posts coming.
