Docwheelhorse 2,740 #1 Posted January 21, 2010 Hello All--- before I turn wrenches and screw myself up... I figured I would ask. I have a complete front forward swept axle out of a 520 (complete with gear reduction). I would like to put it into one of my C's from the mid 70's and then put on my Kwikway loader. Now I understand that I have to pull the motor and drill the frame for the different steering fan assembly. My question is whether the kingpin up front is the same diameter or if the standard C's had a smaller pin than the 520's with the heavy duty steering. I guess I could put a bushing in the 520 axle and use the standard front pin setup---but then it will be tough to get grease into the bushing. Anybody do this conversion and can give me the information before I start taking it all apart? Thanks!!! Tony

Kelly 1,033 #3 Posted January 21, 2010 Other than the two bolt holes you need to drill, it's a bolt in. oh ya the upper steering shaft I belive will have to be cut to size as I think it will be too long, for a older C.
Docwheelhorse 2,740 #4 Posted January 22, 2010 Thanks Kelly!!! That makes it a very simple change out... might get started on it this weekend. Tony
Brrly1 1,146 #5 Posted January 22, 2010 Hey Doc, I believe that there was a guy who put a loader on like that and had put the swept forward front axle. I was thinking that it was the guy who also built a backhoe from scratch, I thought he was from up around your way. One of the New England states. Does 312a sound familiar or possibly Wallfish, I guess that Iam just guessin' but those are my two immediate thoughts. Good Luck See Ya, Bye Burly

stevebo-(Moderator) 8,532 #7 Posted January 22, 2010 He did. I think it was on his C and do not remeber him saying anything about changing the pin size I am sure he will chime in..
Kelly 1,033 #8 Posted January 22, 2010 The pin is the same, I pulled a swept axle and put a stock one back in, bolts right in, if you don't have the gear reduction steering you at least need the lower steering shaft, as the point where the tie rod mount to it is different, I built a plate that fixed it on one, bolted to the stock steering shaft plate.
