Schooner 0 #1 Posted January 19, 2010 Well I spent today digging out of the foot of snow we got here in NH. The Wheel horse was doing fine, but the belt kept popping off one of the pulley's. I believe it's the second one from the blower attachment. The closest one to the tractor that seems to just push down and keep the belt straight as it travels between the blower and the undercarriage. It's a 257-H Wheel Horse with a single stage, small chute attachment. The belt seems to be jumping off to the right. It keeps working fine after it pops off, but I am damaging the belt as it drags along the side of the pulley. Can I slide the most forward pulley over to make it line up better with the pulley that it keeps jumping? Is adding more tension the solution? I thought the springs underneath kept it automatically tight? Any help is appreciated, as you can tell I am a newbie to my Wheel Horse. Thanks.
kajamo240 3 #2 Posted January 19, 2010 I would first check and make sure that the pulley's are still straight. Yes, the spring underneath should be keeping the proper tension on the belt to keep the auger moving. All 4 (including PTO) pulley's should like up with each other as long as your blower is for your tractor.
Schooner 0 #3 Posted January 20, 2010 Thanks for the reply. Yes, the pulleys all line up, but one just keeps popping off. I noticed that the forward pulley on the the shaft of the blower has 2 allen nuts that I can loosen. Maybe I will just move the pulley over a bit to line it up better. Would that make sense? Hallas 0 #5 Posted January 21, 2010 wow I have the same model and the same problem. Lighter stuff it works okay, but when im chewing on a good one it pops off. I don't think I have much play in the tension adjuster, but I will look for that allen adjustment. Also, putting belts on these things are like dunking a cat in a glass of water. rickv1957 74 #6 Posted January 21, 2010 Wonder if it would help to add a little stiffer spring?,Rick
Schooner 0 #7 Posted January 28, 2010 Hallas, After a long day, thank you for making me laugh. I have three cats and just about spit my beer out reading your post. Very funny. The first time I put the belt on I did it the wrong way. I was snow excited after getting it on. I then drove out of the garage into the snow storm and learned my mistake when instead of throwing the snow, it was sucking it in. Ooops. Well as far as the pulley falling off, it stopped snowing so that has solved the problem. I am going to try and move the most forward pulley over and see what happens. Thanks for all recommendations.
