My First Loader Machine I hauled today!!

Recommended Posts

defed

the loaders themselves are nearly identical. i have some other, older posts, about this when i was trying to find out how different they are. i wasn't able to get anyone to confirm measurements of an actual D-auto loader, so i took 2 pics, resized them to the same scale and then compared.

i forget now what the differences were. i think the D-auto has close to equal length upper and lower arms where the D-250 loader has short lower arms and the main lift cylinder is attached to a different place on a different gusset. obviously the subframe is different but the cylinders and pump are the same (with a different drive pulley).

Here is the only picture I have of the loader tractor I picked up today. It is a 1973 auto 18 model 1 0610 and it came with a weight box and wheelhorse loader number 07 48BK01 4762 0053. I have to thank Will (Truckin 88) for the lead. The guy is moving out this week and needed to sell it quick and the price was very good. It has ags and wheel weights to boot !! :banghead:

The engine runs and the loader operates as it should however the po told me that it began to piss hydro fluid like it did one other time whne a line broke. That happen last year and he basically parked it since then however it is a solid running machine. I will have to get it off the trailer and into the shop to have a look at it. I think I like it !!

I have a rear end coming from Joe's Outdoor. I have some time next week set aside to pull the current rear end and do the swap. I will then have Tom test the hydrolics and then Jeff and Tom help me put together a punch list. I need this one to be fully functional first then maybe do the restore over the summer??

Hey Steve, were you giddy at all or have too pinch yerself on the ride home with the loader? I've done that a few times myself on the ride home when I've made a killer score.

I was happy to say the least on this one. It will be a keeper. If you need me to help you move materials etc at your house give a call. I figure this will be a community tractor that family and friends will use in the psing to move mulch, dirt, stone etc. I am looking forward to getting it mechanically correct then maybe a restore in the summer.

Here are the pics of the tractor with the rear end out. Due to the weight box and loader frame it made it a little bit more work. While the weight box is out and rear wheels off i figure I may as well have them sandblasted and get them painted. I will do some paint work under the machine on the loader frame too  I hope to be able to remove the hubs without too much trouble that is why I flushed the housing out so when I have the hubs pressed it will not make a mess. The pic shows the bolt that sheared off (at least one if not more) seeing as though this one came out as I was flushing it.

Doug,

I found a rear that will be shipped on Monday. It came out of a 76 D160.

Thats an interesting set up on the fuel line/filter that the prior owner had. What is all that? Is that a three way split coming out of the tank?

Too bad WH didn't put a strong enough bolt there. Destroyed a lot of cases!

Will,

Figured I will take my time, use the air wrench, drink a sam and smoke a nice cigar. It is nice to be able to get the dirty work done and then clean the shop floor with the mop. It makes the next day much easier. You used to be able to eat off my shop floor but now.... you understand.

I have one that cracked on the other side. I wonder if the 73' and 79' would make a match? If you are going to get rid of it let me know and I will try to save one.
