Hello All,

Fellow Redsquare member Longarm had been mentioning to me that he would like to have a genset for the front of his Wheel Horse but that they seemed to always be too far away or too high priced. I remembered that I had a 3000 watt generator laying around without a mount and we worked out a deal where I built the mount and painted it the mandatory red. Longarm will be taking delivery of his new favorite attachment next week. Here are some pics of the fruits of my labor--- one used mule drive, an 8"x12" piece of 1/4" plate, 15 nuts and bolts, some misc. hardware, a pulley, belt and some paint and voila!!!

 Tony, looks good. Is the generator a 4 pole design that will produce 60 Hz at ~1800 RPM? I have been considering making a generator bracket also for my 18 Hp 518H or my 417-8. I have located several different generators heads (all 4-pole) on Ebay.

HI--no the generator has to spin @ 3600 to make 60hz... I did the math and by using the outside pulley on the PTO and a 3 1/2" pulley on the generator it works out that the engine is spinning around 2600 and the generator is hitting 3600. Just realise that this generator only requires 6 hp for full output so slowing the engine down in this case isn't a problem--motor is a Kohler 8 that is running about 3/4 throttle. WHen the wattage goes up so does the horsepower and the closer you get to the full capacity of the engine you will end up running the same size pulley on the engine and generator so that you end up with 3600 rpm at both ends.

:banghead: Tony, 2600 RPM is certainly a better speed than 3600 RPM which will use a lot of fuel and make added audible noise. Actually 2600 RPM is a good speed if you want to load up the tractor engine more, as most of the Kohlers produce maximum torque between 2200 RPM and 2800 RPM.

I like the design and may also use it. Unless you already have a trademark or patent!

No Trademarks or Patents pending!!! But this design can only be used on Wheel Horse tractors... If I see a similar configuration on a Sears, J.D. or Cub mule drive I'm coming after yah!!!!

Maybe its time this Longarm guy starts posting and what a perfect way to start. A post with a pic of his tractor and generator would be nice.

Come on Lou. Lets see this generator in action.

I saw this up close guys and it came out real nice  .

Hi-no, I bought the generator a few years ago at one of the large automotive swap/flea markets they have at one of our local tracks twice a year. The genset puts out 120, 240 and 12 vdc. I think it may have seen duty as a race pit setup..... most of the guys have gensets in the pits. I bought it with no mount and only a promise that it worked....
