gzx3sc 0 #1 Posted January 17, 2010 Does anybody know what the cure is for the typical D series Kohler engine surging at low engine speeds with no load. I've played with governor settings, idle and main fuel rich adjustments etc. and there doesn't seem to be a happy medium between getting them to run decent at full throttle loaded vs. idle. Set the idle and the thing does want to rev. Get it to rev. and it gets choked up at idle. Every D with a Kohler that I've ever heard runs this way. There's a guy out in Illinois with one one You-Tube and it sits there and surges like crazy. Ive got two D200s that run this way unless I richen the idle to where it sounds like a big cam small block Chevy.
rickv1957 75 #2 Posted January 17, 2010 I had one D that had the surge, a though carb cleaning along with a set of points now runs smooth,Rick
gzx3sc 0 #3 Posted January 17, 2010 I've been avoiding the carb. cleaning but it's now on the list of things to do. That's typically what I do when I get a tractor, just haven't had the time.
pfrederi 18,696 #4 Posted January 17, 2010 My D200 also has that surging at lower speeds.... Since she started so well I really hadn't done much to the engine. Put her in the heated part of the shop yesterday for rear hub removal and re-wiring...guess i will add points and carb cleaning to the list.
