Thanks guys!

Fred, Yes, it's the Valspar Resto with hardener. After 48 hours at 70 degrees, I scuffed it lightly to break the surface. That allows the paint to cure a little quicker (at least I think so). The next day, it got wet-sanded flat, then buffed. The final process is called "Master Shine". It doesn't really "seal" the surface, put does put a nice shine on it. They say that it is paintable, but didn't want any of it under the edges of the black. Hope that makes sense.

I re-installed the fenderpan and seat this evening. The hood should be ready to go back on tomorrow night, after the black dries. More pics then....

Eldon:

At the risk of sounding dumb about this, but what grit sand paper did you use on your paint job? I assume you finished up with 1000 grit, but do you use someting coarser first?

By the way, congrats on wihning that B-100 on e-bay. That looks like a super nice original. I bid, but not as high as you. Will we see it at Arendtsville?

Fred

Thanks guys, Yes, the B100 will be at the show.

For paint: Everything after the color is applied is 2000 wet sanded. Then 3m Heavy Cut compound, 3m polishing compound, then the Master Shine.

BTW, after drying overnight, the semi-gloss black looks to be about the perfect shine. It will all go together tonight, and I need to re-arrange thing to make room for the new kid, which apparently will be a "skinny chick".

Just got done putting it all together:

Kind of tight in the garage, but here's a decent angle:

Now the rest of it needs cleaned up, when it stops raining!

Thanks guys! These rear fender pans take alot longer to wet sand than the C series. Too many curves!

Hopefully TD will have some decals for me soon.

Wow, had to dig back 4 pages to find this thread !

Anyhow, here's the finished project. Haven't decided yet if the deck gets painted or not. Ken, does this deck look familiar?

Kudos to TD for making the decals for me!

BEAUTIFUL!

What type of paint did you use on the muffler? How do you prep the muffler for the paint?

Thanks,

Banjo

Just wire-brushed the loose stuff off the muffler, and painted it with BBQ Grill paint. That should hold up to the heat pretty well. I've put about 1/2 hour on it so far, and it still looks ok.

There is actual high temp exhaust paint out there, black, silver, etc etc supposed to be good to 1200 degrees

Yes there is, but this stuff is rated to 1500 degrees, and it has a nice satin finish.

Sticking my nose in here too.....

I painted the Bassani "power pipe" on my Honda 3 wheeler with "pot-bellied" stove paint. I bought a one pint can at a local furnace / wood stove dealer and applied it with a foam brush. Immediately after painting the pipe, I fired up the engine and baked it on. It still looked perfect 2 years later! (except where the rocks hit it. :WRS: )

Ahh Well the BBQ paint I have isnt rated for that high of a temp. Its only like 600 degrees or something like that.
