kj4kicks 154 #1 Posted February 29, 2008 Hi Guys, Got started on the 416 today. Do you think the paint was a little faded? Attached Image (Click thumbnail to expand)
Kelly 1,033 #2 Posted February 29, 2008 At least it has paint. most of mine are a brown tone.
nylyon-(Admin) 7,882 #3 Posted February 29, 2008 Wow that is faded. By the way, you have me trained now that when I see a picture I go to your pictures page to see all of them!
TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #4 Posted February 29, 2008 Not quite as bad as my 1990, Eldon -- but it was getting there. My wife still calls mine "the pink tractor" even though it's slowly getting changed back to red again. Mine had sat outside for years, and with a set of "Barbie" decals would have looked real nice! Ed Mayhew had one at the show the other year (with a 2 stage blower) that was even worse than mine. I didn't feel quite as bad about mine after seeing his.
kj4kicks 154 #5 Posted February 29, 2008 The 416 has the snow blade on it. Now you know why I was only plowing after dark! WH still has one side of the hood decal available that is correct. For the other side, they changed the part number, and of course, the lettering is different. So 'you know who" is going to repro them for me. Same for the rear decal. The new p/n has the wrong lettering. He has a set on his site for the older models (without the Toro logo on them). Maybe this one will end up with a 2 stage blower on it for the show? Either way, the tractor will be for sale soon. PS. WTG Karl, on figuring out the method to my madness....
Greg B. 1 #6 Posted February 29, 2008 Kelly, I have one of those brown horses, too Greg B.
combatmp29r 27 #7 Posted February 29, 2008 I have a couple brown ones. Just thought they were like real horses and each one had a different coat
T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,610 #8 Posted February 29, 2008 Eldon, I think we need to get you a life. Or at least, get you here to Missouri so you can make my C-141 look good. Seriously, though, I can't wait to see this one. And if I was going to the show and my wife let me have some cash , I would love to bring this one home. I kind of like the looks of the late 80's Toro/Wheel Horses. Hence me owning the 314-8.
nylyon-(Admin) 7,882 #9 Posted February 29, 2008 When T3 does the decals, I may be interested in a set. they are difficult to find and expensive to boot. Mine are a little scratched up, and a sticker refresh would be nice. I don't have any faded paint (that I know of anyway). I do have 2 sets of newer classic stickers from Toro if you wanted them. The Toro logo is larger and Wheel Horse is smaller. I had thought of putting them on the 414-8, I like the black in the decals.
TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #10 Posted February 29, 2008 Here's the 2 sets that I bought in 2006 -- for less than $20.00 for everything! Someday my 416 will get one set (as soon as I get it repainted), and I'm saving the other set for a future project that I don't have yet. I have all of the P/N's for the rest of the decals to finish out this "set" (hood back, hood stand, dash, etc. and need to get them ordered before they become NLA too. ) I really like this design :
nylyon-(Admin) 7,882 #11 Posted February 29, 2008 They may be the exact same decals, except the rear pan decal wasn't available when I got mine off eBay. I bought 2 complete hood sets for about 10 bucks shipped, just couldn't pass that up.
TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #12 Posted February 29, 2008 I bet yours came from MN too. I should have bought every other one of them I could get.
kj4kicks 154 #13 Posted February 29, 2008 Yep, TT, That's the ones that are still available. Here's what the originals looked like: Attached Image (Click thumbnail to expand)
Rollerman 290 #14 Posted February 29, 2008 I think we need to get you a life. Or at least, get you here to Missouri so you can make my C-141 look good. Terry ...T1?..are you thinking what I'm thinking? I think Eldon should consider a new career as a traveling painter. Have HVLP gun will travel? Probably not much money in it...but be nice to have an Eldon Clause who comes & refinishes are tractors why we sleep. PS I bought 2 sets of the decals 2 when they were on ebay!

The paint is great, but the decals aren't holding up as well. Maybe we can do a group buy from Terry?? Jim
nylyon-(Admin) 7,882 #16 Posted March 1, 2008 Jim, what year is your 416?
kj4kicks 154 #17 Posted March 1, 2008 I sent the decals to TD today. (Not sure where T3 came from?) He should have them in a couple of days. Since he already has the dimensional templates, he only needs to change the lettering. Hopefully a simple job. If so, they should be ready to sell soon. I'll keep you posted on the progress. perry 82 #18 Posted March 1, 2008 great to see your getting some shop time in . your tractors are sure turning out nice
Jim_M 179 #19 Posted March 1, 2008 Karl, I'll have to check the numbers, but I'm pretty sure it's a 94. Jim
nylyon-(Admin) 7,882 #20 Posted March 1, 2008 The decals should all be the same then. I looked up the Horse emblem part number 92-9836 and it is still available for about $10.
kj4kicks 154 #21 Posted March 6, 2008 Finished wet-sanding and buffing this morning. Taped it off and used Krylon semi-gloss for the mask. I think it'll be pretty close to the original. Semi-flat was too flat Still need to apply the "Final Shine", but wanted to get the black on there before the paint was sealed.
CasualObserver 3,411 #22 Posted March 6, 2008 Once again, I'm humbled by your painting!!
Greg B. 1 #23 Posted March 6, 2008 Very, very nice, Eldon. Even if it ain't a "Black Hood" Greg B.

FreddieFarmall 1 #25 Posted March 7, 2008 Eldon: The paint job looks great. Is that the TSC paint with hardener? How long do you have to wait to sand and buff? What did you mean when you said you wanted to apply the black before the paint sealed? Fred P.
