42" Rear Discharge Decks

Easy question......hopefully

Did ALL 42" rear discharge decks come with baffles in them, or do some have them, and some don't.

If you're referring to the two small triangular baffles in the front between the blades......

Some do & some don't.

The bolt-in full baffle kit (with special blades) is known as the Recycler - which is just the Toro/WH name for the mulching kit.

My 42" RD deck does not have baffles, but I know that older ones do. I suspect they took out the baffles when they developed the recycler kit for them, but that is really just a guess on my part.

Does anyone use the recycler kit on the rear discharge???

If you do, does it work good???? How much clippings does it leave behind, there has to be some right?

I do and don't. I wish that I could find another 42" Rear Discharge deck so I can have one with and one without the recycler. Anyway, the recycler works well if the grass is dry and not too long. If it is wet or too long, don't even bother using the deck. The clippings it leaves are reqlly quite small, it does a very nice job. I usually take off the recycler in the spring when the grass is longer and wetter and put it on in the summer. Here's a posting on the quality of cut:
