Five Lug rear wheel for a Lawn Ranger

Recommended Posts

jimt1971

Hello All,

I have a 1968 Lawn Ranger that I am putting an 8 speed rear in. I found out the rear I have has the 1 1/8 axles. So I am wondering where I could source a pair or 8 inch five lugs wheels. And if anyone has some in the SE PA area.

Thanks in advance,

Jim

Jim do you have the hubs off the Lawn Rangers transmission? It might be cheaper, and a whole lot easier, to have a machine shop bore them out to 1 1/8" and broach a a new keyway (or deepen the old one if there's enough metal). Might be worth looking into. See you in April at Farm Fun Day?

You might check the bolt pattern on some small trailers(snowmobile) or golf carts

Buzz and Kelly,

I sleept on it and fiqured out that if I could not find the right wheels I may just switch the trans out of my Raider which has the 1" axles to the LR and put the Raider trans in the LR. And so far I should be going to the farm day in April.

Thanks for the help,

Jim

I did an 8 speed conversion in a Lawn Ranger recently, but used a light duty 4 pinion with the 1" axles...made things easier.

I know some of the early vertical shaft horses had the 5 lug pattern with 8" rear rims....that might be something to look into?

You might want to check Glens Surplus in the venders section at the bottom of the site....he has some GT wheels listed & might have what you need?

In fact, the A-80 I'm working with has 18x8.5-8 rear tires. Is that the size? I'm pretty sure it has 5 lugs since that's the number of bolts I was looking for when I lost them in the snow.

The Raider 12 should have 1 1/8" axles too - unless it was previously changed.

None of the smaller tractors / mowers would have the bigger axles either. They're normally one inch or 3/4".

The bolt pattern is the same between some of the lawn tractor hubs and the garden tractor hubs.
