clintonnut 126 #1 Posted January 10, 2010 Hi, I have a 953 that was the 672 tractor built in 1962. It is a very early tractor. I was wanting everyone to submit their serial number, model number and transmission case half dates to me. I want to create a document with all of the data you provide so we can see what the production runs were. I don't care if the what's left of the tractor is a console. A transmission case half ID would look something like H6-1 meaning August 6, 1961. I ONLY WANT 1961-1964 tractor numbers. You can post them here or PM me with them. Thanks Charlie
stevasaurus 23,276 #2 Posted January 10, 2010 Charlie...first...there was no 672 built in 1962 (unless it was built over seas)...here you are looking at 5 models in the 1962 time frame: 2 LR 32E, 2 LR 32 R, 502, 552, 702. My 502 model & serial # 62-18107 trans 5025 engine HT55c-3088P ny 702 model & serial # 62-4216 trans 5025 engine K 161 S hope that helps...would like know what you come up with.

Sparky-(Admin) 23,147 #4 Posted January 10, 2010 Steve, I think he means it was the six hundred and seventy second tractor built in 1962 before it hit the showroom floor as a 1963-953. Mike......

oldandred 15 #6 Posted January 10, 2010 Ok now if its a 953 the year was 1963 Charlie how do you know it was made in 1962? mine was 1963 dont know what the number was but can look
stevasaurus 23,276 #7 Posted January 10, 2010 OK...not an expert, but as I understand it...a 62- number is a 1962 edition. I know the numbers were crazy because they just kept going and it didn't make a difference...depending on parts.............was not trying to say something was wrong...just still trying to learn and added what I have. Still hope it helps. That is a low number you have there. Is it possible, that your 672 number is the first of the 1963 tractors?...with the larger engine? Sparky-(Admin) 23,147 #8 Posted January 10, 2010 I think its like the car manufacturers Steve, who build cars for example in late 1987 but they are actually the new 1988 models and hit the showroom floor in say November of 1987. Mike.......

wallfish 18,086 #12 Posted January 11, 2010 Here's an old quote from Wild Bill about the serial #s. What ever happened to him anyway????? He hasn't posted here for a long time. The early 60's aerial numbers were mounted as follows a) The 1960 Suburban serial number was stamped into the shift pattern plate which also housed the throttle and choke levers. In the early run of 1961 Suburbans some of the old serial number plates off 1960 Suburban were used. To use this 1960 serial number plate the top half with just the serial number was cut away from the shift pattern portion of the plate and mounted on the hood stand of the tractor by a single sheet metal screw (on the front of the hood stand). c) The remaining part of 1961 a decal was used. d) In 1962 the serial number was written on the shift pattern decal and once again in the early part of 1963 you will see Wheel Horses with a shift pattern decal that will have a prefix of "62" even though the year model is a 1963. e) In the later part of 1963 the prefix was left off the shift pattern decal for the serial number. f) In 1964 the serial number decal was just a white based decal with black lettering about the size of a postage stamp. g) In 1965 the metal tag was started and used during the reamain years of the 1960's. Buzz 502 #13 Posted January 11, 2010 Garry West has been keeping track of serial numbers for a couple of years as one of the owners of the Yahoo manuals group. He's a member here, maybe he will see this and comment.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,472 #14 Posted January 11, 2010 Some serial numbers are in a Database in this Group http://groups.yahoo.com/group/wheelhorsetractormanuals/ As soon as the page opens click on one of the colored column headers that you want the data sorted by. The default is the 1st column. Then click on Printable Report at the top right of the page. All the data will load onto one page that you can quickly scroll through. Use the Back button to close that page. If you click on a selected column a 2nd time the sort order is reversed. It was a chore to come up with a method of integrating the different number formats over the years but adding zeros to the number was the ticket. So far it appears the 953's were built in 4 lots. Have never made an effort to collect the serial numbers - just added as I came across them with about 1900 so far. Now would be a good time to start adding to this valuable resource and make it even better. If anyone PM's me their numbers include your forum ID so it can be used rather than a name.
