Within three minutes of blowing tonight my freaking chain on my snow thrower broke.

model# 96-42ST01

I assume I need part number 6416 and 6392(2710-11)

Are these chains repairable of is it best to buy a new one?

Are these a pain in the *** to fix?

Where is the best place to get parts...anyone here have a new one???

Well I have a blower as well on my C-121 I had a bunch of trouble at first breaking roller chain. After I replaced the entire chain, with new chain I had no problems afterword. It should say 40 pitch on the side of the chain. You can get chain and master links at most hardware stores and sometimes lowes. If not you can order it on McMaster.com

If you are talking brands, I'm sure there are a lot of good ones. Diamond brand is a very good brand. At work we use diamond 50 pitch chain to run 300' runs of padded chain conveyers, very tough stuff.

Not to hard to work with. Just make sure that you cut it at the right link, you want the small part of the chain when you are done to put the master on. There is a tool for cutting but you can use a grinder and a punch to do it. The best thing I can say when cutting chain to fit is measure 4 times and cut once.

Years ago, I needed to replace the chain on a motorcycle. The M/C dealer wanted more $$ that I thought it should be, so I looked elsewhere.

I ended up at an Allis Chalmers tractor dealer, got a better chain, and cost about 1/3 the amount the Honda dealer wanted.

The tractor dealer had the chain in bulk, so you could get any length you need.

I found bulk chain at my local Tractor Supply. You can also buy a chain breaking tool, offset links, and master links there. It's all you need to get up and running. And yes, it's an easy job.

Heck, you might only need to add another master link to the broken chain get up and running quickly.

Well, I got it fixed last night, went very smooth with no problems, got new chain at one of my local TSC's. I looked at my old chain and there were literally dozens of places where the chain was cracked and ready to come apart, also when I layed it down to measure it against the new one, the old one had TONS of play in it like it was stretching, so it was definitely time to replace it.

Come spring time clean it up real good turn on blower and spring it with chain lube.
