Down Pressure on a blade

Is down pressure good on a dozer blade.....it seems it would clear packed snow better, but also wear out the cutting edge more (I'm on concrete/asphalt).

What are your guys experiences/recommendations? :thumbs:

Down pressure does eat away your wear bar but it also takes off the

packed ice and snow. So ya gotta give a little to get a little

If you have a hydro you can add a solid lift rod/arm to the rockshaft instead of the chain or you can add weight on the plow itself.

I use down pressure when I need to scrape down to the concrete. Half of my concrete driveway slopes down towards the road, if I don't scrape it clean it packs into ice in a couple of days and I can't get enough traction to get up the hill with any motorized vehicle that I own.

Yes it wears the cutting edge down faster but I make my own wear bars so it doesn't really matter to me.

I have never had down pressure on a WH but I have on other tractors the cons to DP are more wear on the blade and enough DP will cause you to loose steering.

I have never had a problem cutting down to the surface with mine I have to wonder do you have the plow adjusted so that is below contact when in the down position so the full weight of the plow is on the ground?

Personally I wouldnt put a solid link on to replace the chain for down pressure because I have seen that done before and it broken the rockshaft completely from all of the pressure going to it. And when you are lowering you blade you dont realize that all of the pressure is on that small arm. If you wanted more down pressure you could put some weights on your plow such as a few suit case weights. That is just my own opinion.
