How tight should tie rod ends be?

I noticed that the studs where the tie rod ends connect to the spindles were rocking back and forth on my 314-H. I took a wrench to them and snugged them down and was surprised by how much effort it took to move the nuts. Maybe this was because the threads were a little boogered up but it seemed to me that the nuts were some sort of jam nut. If it wasn't 16

The nuts are a crimp-style locking design and - along with all fasteners on your equipment - should be checked periodically and tightened as needed. Don't "Herc out" on these and twist them off, but they do need to be tight. :thumbs:

Thanks for the confirmation and warning. They're snug now and I didn't break anything. I'll keep an eye out for other loose things.

Hank, during my rebuilds I've been putting a lock washer on those (and almost every other nut, bolt or part I can fit one on to) to keep things from working loose. I use blue threadlocker where I can't fit a lockwasher or if adding one looks too foolish.
