How do I attatch snow blade?

Hello, I just bought a wheel horse, from researching I believe it is a B80 1969? and i just bought a long frame snow plow and im having the hardest time hooking it up. I know that it attatches to the blade lift lever but where does it attatch at the rear axle? Does it attatch to the hitch pin? It seems too short to even reach back there but its the A frame that is straghtened out at the back. Any Help?

PS im not sure what model wheel horse i have because the previous owners painted it and covered everything.

Have to get the bracket that attaches to the rear axle. You can buy some new ones that will work off of ebay if you cant find it.

thanks for the help. i found a way to put the rod in where the hitch connects and it will work i had to undo the deck raising mech. and arrange it different. should work nicely. Its alot more work though! I need to be ready by tomorrow, we are supposed to get 6-8in tonight.

Just pondering - anyone ever modified a long frame plow to fit on a tractor that needed a short frame??? How'd you do it??

I haven't seen this done, I would be concerned that the plow will go sideways and break the cast at the pin.

This is a 54 inch blade and the frame is somehwat different from a B-80 but take a look at the parts .

Side view of B-80 with frame and plow installed.

Rear axle with push pin clamped around rod at rear of the B-80 frame.

Right to left view of tracor with the angle handle and lift bar hookup undernearth the B-80 with the snowplow frame.

Check out the other posting mentioned above but these should help you a bit more!

no i took the long rod out from the back of the plow and put it where the rod for the hitch goes. The 1/2" steel rod. it wont break.

The rod may not break, but the cast iron boss the rod goes through is liable to break if it gets a twist going.....be careful

I agree, i would not hook the plow up like that as the cast iron would be likely to break, and then you would be in search for a new tranny. I would suggest getting the right bracket so nothing gets damaged. There are brackets often on ebay or im sure a member from here could hook you up with one. :thumbs:

Is there anything I can make to ensure I dont break the trans. without buying the bracket. I really dont want to drop anymore money into it. I only have 175 in the tractor and plow.

Without knowing your mechanical aptitude, fabrication skills, or resources, that question can't easily be answered.

Where do you work? Do you know anyone with a welder? Do you have any scrap steel laying around?

I'd like to tell you to build your own brackets to mount the blade frame to the rear axle housings - so if you're capable, grab some long bolts and a few pieces of steel and do your best. :thumbs:

what about U-bolts?

Square bend U bolts would work to secure the brackets to the axle housings.

You have to have a bracket with enough "drop" so the mounting rod at the rear of the blade A frame clears the underside of the transaxle.

Do you have a way to drill 3/4" holes through steel?

I'm not sure if this will help or not, but here's a picture of a pair of brackets that my son made to mount a blade on his 312-8.

Function is more important than form, and they might not have the quick-release feature of a WH bracket, but they do the job. :thumbs:

I dragged mine out of the barn today- guess what it's identical to the one in your picture down to the triangular shaped plate to the mechanism that angles the blade. EXCEPT no extra set of holes! :thumbs:
