Ever just go for a spin around the neighborhood?

Recommended Posts

wahoowad

Sometimes when I cut my grass with my Sears lawn tractor I will take a spin down the road, smile and wave at the neighbors. I feel foolish but fun at the same time. I think I'm the only guy with a riding lawn mower so I know they all think I'm crazy. I don't care, still kinda fun!

Is it bad for the engine to ride around awhile in high gear? I wouldn't think so.

Sparky

It wont do the tractor any harm and its great therapy for the driver! I use my tractor to go to the neighbors all the time.

There is also a one mile trail behind my house that I sometimes take a cruise on. I end up in second gear and not third because of the rough terrain on the trail but it makes for a nice long ride.

I'm the only guy in my neighborhood with a tractor also. I'm lucky that I have some dirt roads and even some trails in the woods that I often frequent with my seven yr, old son Cole ridin shotgun. When I go down to the mailbox (which is about a quarter mile from my house) by myself I sometimes get that blank stare from someone who doesn't recognize me. A few yrs. ago I took the Horse out with a trailer on Halloween with the kids in it, Its seems that caught on a little as I saw a few people out this yr. with lawn tractors.

I like the idea of using the tractor and trailer for taking the kids around town for Halloween. I've got 3 kids so I get plenty of seat time pulling them around the yard and down to the neighbors in the wagon. My 3 year old follows me with the 3 wheel mower (swisher big mow).

I do the same, when the kids were more willing I would hook up the wagon and take them on a ride. They would usually sit and fight with each other as I pulled them around the neighborhood.

I used to take the wheel horses out hor a ride around the nerghber hood once in a while, and one day i took my Farmall C for a ride and when i come down the hill to my house what do i see but the neighbor that lives across the road from me standing their with a state trooper. He stood there yelling me me and saying he might suspend my lisense, and tractors aren't allowed on the road because i don't own a farm, and the following winter i was plowing a neighbors drive and when i went to back up there was another trooper standing there, he was telling me i can't plow neighbors driveways because i travel on the road with the tractor, this neighbor never stops. Haha i guess its my luck to have a neighborhood nazi living across the road from me. But i still go out and help all the elderly neighbors with their driveways.

Well, you can be happy about two things. First, you've got some great stuff to ride 'round the neighborhood. Second, your neighbor clearly has bigger problems than you!

Last week I rode about two blocks to a friends house the day he had his knee replaced so I could plow his drive. It turned out he wasn't coming home that day, but he appreciated the help anyway.

In 06 I flew from KC to the big show in PA.....thought about buying just a one way ticket so I could drive the raffle tractor back home...guess it was a good thing that I did NOT win..but wouldn't a "slow cruze" thru the back roads of PA, OH,KY TN, IL been fun.(for the first couple miles at least)....talk about some "SEAT TIME!!!!!

Most likely.

I'm not up on the specifics of other state's laws, but in Kentucky it is illegal to operate ANY vehicle, motorized or not, under the influence. Non-motorized vehicles include animals, bicycles, roller skates,... What that means is that if you get drunk and try to ride a mule across your own farm you can be arrested. (It's illegal to be drunk on yer as$ in Kentucky.).

I almost hate to admit this, but one of my (now late) uncles was so notorious for riding his mower around town while "buzzed" that a judge took it away from him.

Hey, you have to keep the batteries charged up somehow. At least that is the excuse I use.

in the simmer time i ride over to see my neighbor 2 doors over when he can come out on the back porch with his coffee. we just shoot the breeze for awhile, it's a great ime,and it give the horses somethin to do that don't get much use. :banghead: as for the drinking on a mower, check out some youtube vid of a drunk guy on a mower. one guy got popped more than once. the vidoe is shot from the dash cam.

I dont know about other states but in Ohio you can have a tractor and not live on a farm. You have to have a Slow Moving Vehicle sign to travel on the road and there are other stipulations.

I have been known to go for a cruse every now and then.

In Florida you can operate a farm tractor without a drivers license or tag. You can bet the trooper that comes to your neighbors house thinks he is an embosil. I am thankful that all mt neighbors have golf carts, four wheelers and tractors. No one bothers anyone. I live in a farm belt area and everyone helps each other. I am like you, I mow the neighbors yard sometime for free because they can't aford a riding mower and I can't sit and watch him push mow. Kepp doing the nice things and believe me the trooper is on your side. I know because I am one.
