So wh500special just posted a pic in the pic section of a 418-C(commercial). So whats it got that my 418-A doesnt have? Mine has the louvered hood and a couple of chrome goodies but thats all I could see as far as differences.

OK heres my understanding of the comercials. Someone please add more if they have it. Mike, my understanding is the comercials just didn't have the bells and whistles such as the chrome you mentioned. They were plane jane work horses made to do their job. Contractors didn't need all the chrome and shiny stuff like homeowners wanted.

Man I just realized that I don't have chrome on any of my horses except the V18. Hmmm the farmer side of me I guess. Ilike chrome, but just don't own any for the horses. The big JD has chrome though.

As i understand the decks were different the C had a 1/2 rod that went all around the deck shell and over the top by the shute, and renforsein plates for the rear wheels. After about 1990 all decks had this renforseing on them. Also i think there was a difference with the front wheels/ splindes.

Gents,

I haven't done a detailed accounting of the differences b/t the commercial model and the std. model, but I think it is mostly superficial.

You mentioned the lack of louvers and chrome on the commercial tractor, but also lacking is the full complement of indicator lights. The commercial seat is also slightly different.

I think - but haven't checked - that the front axle has heavier spindles on the 418-C than on the 418-A.

If I get a chance to look at the parts breaskdown I will let you know what I find, but if you'd rather do it yourself on the Toro MPV the two model numbers to compare are:

418-A 31-18KE01

418-C 41-18KE01

Looks like the 418-C was a 1987 only offering.

Steve

I have a 418C and it was sitting next to a 420C when I bought it in 1987. The only difference in these two and the other models (per the saleman) was the lack of chrome on mine (the 420 had chrome hubcaps) and a "beefier" mower deck and front end. I am "restoring" mine...it only has 380 hours on it. I need a starter and cannot find the serial number. Any help or recommendations? It starts OK, but drags a little more all the time. Also - any ideas on decals?

Steve, the model# on the engine in my 418-A is M18QS and the spec# is 24510. A dealer should be able to hook you up using those #'s.
