GT14

A few years ago I got a 69' GT14. Put it in the back of the shop till I got time to restore it. I have 3 Horses 85' 310-8, 79' D200 and the GT.

Last weekend I was leveling dirt and the rear end housing on the D200 cracked. :notworthy: I have been trying to get the hubs off to repair and still have not had any luck in that department( any tips would be appreciated). I would even replace the rear end with a good one if that would work out.

The 310-8 is completely tore down for restore and about half the parts are painted. Not having heat in the shop it will probably be next year till I can finish painting. I thought about just putting it back together as is but I have to much time in it now to not finish it properly.

I still have dirt in the yard to level. We built a new house behind our old one. Now that the old house is gone I want to try to get some grass seed planted or at the very lease have the dirt sloping away from my new house before the snow flies. With this delema I had to get something up and running.

Out came the GT14. The P.O. said it had a bad ignition switch. There wear missing panels( belt guard and finder support). The belt went from the engine pulley directly to the rear end pulley without using the idler pulley and the belt was so tight that I had to cut it off. I had gotten the missing panels soon after I got it so I had that covered. Got to looking at the wiring and it was a mess. After I figured out what went were and did some testing I found that the switch was good and the solenoid was bad. With the wiring figured out I put some gas in it and tied to start it but no luck. Was not getting gas so I put a new hose and filter on it and still nothing. Come to find out that the gas tank out let spot is up a little and just a little bit of gas wount work. Put more gas in hit it with some break clean and got it to run :WRS:. And man did it ever smoke, had to leave the shop for the night after that. Next day drove it to the front of the shop and drained all the oils and put a new filter on the rear end. Put regular oil in to make sure every thing was going to be alright. Put all the panels and new belt on, a new battery and cable ends, a new air filter and a new muffler. Adjusted the carb and got it to quit smoking. Drove it around about half an hour and the trany worked great. Have to do a little more adjusting on the carb this morning and try to find a locking coller for the ignition switch and I should be able to finish my yard work today. Im going to pick up a rebuild kit for the carb tomorrow and I will need to find a choke cable for it.after I have worked it for a day I will put the good oil in her.

I really like this tractor, it is a pleasure to drive and seems that when Im done with the little things it will be a keeper. I had all intentions of doing a complete restore on it but at this time I like it just the way it is. This thing has not been molested at all. Has the factory tires and seat on it and a very nice patina to it.

I knew that I liked the style of it and now I like the way it operates. What a nice machine. If I only knew that I would have liked it this much I would have had her running the day after I got it.

I have been working on doing the picture thing. I just cant get the pics from the camera to the computer  Might pick up a cord this morning when I go to town.

Thank you for letting me share my happiness with you guys.

It looks as though I will be parting out an 18 auto. If you need a rear end let me know and we will see what we can get worked out.

Congrats on getting the GT 14 up and running! That has to be a great feeling!

Yes it is a very good feeling. I might be interested in the rear end, is it the one with the brake on it? I have been told that in 78' they put the brake band on them and they dont hook up quit the same. Not to sure what the difference is between them just going by what I have been told.

Rick

The GT is a brute cant wait to really work her.

Steve

Yes having more then one helps a lot. Now if I could just convince my wife of that......
