ID my tiller

Recommended Posts

Raider

I brought home a new-to-me tiller today. It was part of a group of attachments that were with a Raider 10, 1968 I believe which is the same as my tractor. I did not buy the lot though just the tiller, hitch, idler and belt. First here's the pictures:

Now for the questions:

What model is it? There's no tag on the tiller but the transmission casting has the number 6837 cast into both sides.

Is anything missing? I am pretty sure there should be a spring on the idler somewhere, probably where the piece of wire is hanging right now?

How do I hang it on my tractor? The rear hitch looks easy enough, I took this part off the old tractor myself so I know how it goes back on mine. It looks like this hitch is for the tiller only and too wide for a dozer or anything else right? The idler I'm not so sure of, it doesn't look like it just clicks into an attachamatic. My Raider has the same type of mid hitch as my C-series but I noticed the old tractor that the tiller came from had an older looking version of the mid hitch, I didn't get that since the old tractor still had a mower with it. So how do I make the idler work or do I get a different idler??

How do I lift it? I assume the J-Bolt on the tiller goes through my slot hitch and that lifts the tiller?

How do I route the drive belt and are there more than one? There's a double pully on the idler, what's that about?

Where can I get the diagrams/instructions for this unit?

Sheesh that got long winded! Thanks for any and all help and advice!

Your tiller is a 7-1211. The "idler" as you call it is actually the second mule drive which mounts to the transmission mount. You are missing the mid mount mule and the belt guard that goes with this set-up. You have to loosen/remove the right side running board to run your main drive belt which goes from engine to mid mount mule to trans mount mule. You then have another belt which goes back to the tiller. It's easiest to remove the rear tire to install this particular tiller. Many have adapted this tiller to use the single belt set-up (myself included) as it is a more reliable system.

Hey Pat...how do you tell the difference in the Rt-367 and the 7-1211 Tiller...i would have guessed this one a 367, but i dont have a manual on the 7-2111 to compare.,Also which part are you calling the mid mount mule...i see all the parts in the pics..maybe :notworthy:

Thanks

With all the info I've got so far I've done a little research. I am indeed missing a belt guard and the little mid-idler. I remember seeing the belt guard laying on the ground and might have also picked up and dropped the idler also. Rats. Well I know where they are anyway. There was a kind of a pile of misc. junk laying in the leaves when I was there.

BTW I can't see where the mule drive/idler/whatever I have would mount on my tractor if it doesn't go beneath the engine. A pic would be worth a thousand words but the Toro site doesn't have drawings for this tiller.

I think I can mount and lift this tiller with what I've got and after looking around came to the conclusion that a single belt system would be much easier to work with than the original design. Anyone have pictures of the modifications to do that? I assume I can pitch the piece I have with the double pullies and buy or make a new one that goes into my mid attachamatic. Then I'd need to find a belt to fit. That should be about it right?

Thanks a lot so far though, I've been able to learn a lot with what info has been shared.
