Suburban 550 28 #1 Posted November 20, 2009 This picture was sent to me by a friend who knows I'm into Wheel Horse tractors. It belongs to his neighbor who has it sittin' outside for a long time and might be interested in gettin' rid of it. Didn't see it in person but it looks real rough from the picture he sent. The hood is chopped and it looks like it has downspout for an exhaust. Hope to get to see it this weekend and see if it is decent enough for a restoration. It probably is the worst I'll ever attempt to do. Don't really know if it is a 58 or 59.
VinsRJ 723 #2 Posted November 20, 2009 Its a 58-59 RJ for sure but without the serial tag its tuff to tell which year. Check the tranny case near the shifter arm for a cast in date code. Its not a full proof method but WH started casting in date codes in the center section of the tranny sometime in mid-ish 58. Looks like it could be restored IMO. wallfish 18,072 #3 Posted November 20, 2009 Looks like a beauty to me. One man's trash is another man's treasure. Wish I had the deck. I bet you can score that one cheap or even free.

bell 11 #6 Posted November 20, 2009 Ray, I've brought home worse... I know a guy from Shenandoah, PA that does AWESOME body work... he could make it look better than new! His name is Ray.
whfan74 2,071 #7 Posted November 20, 2009 Ray, I agree with Jon.......from the looks of your other tractors this one is in for a real treat! It looks as though it is just begging to come to your place where it will get the attention that it deserves! Good luck!
clintonnut 126 #8 Posted November 21, 2009 Nice find! If you end up parting it out (too rough), I need a tank, steering wheel, and the hood even though it is chopped. Charlie
Suburban 550 28 #9 Posted November 21, 2009 Charlie, you'll be the first to know if I do get it and decide to part it out. Thanks to all the others for your help and encouraging words. Jon and Scott, this one may beyond my capabilities. Still waiting for the phone call on the price and when I could come and look at it. I was told today it still runs. It's a shame how some people would let them sit and rot outside rather than part with them. Hopefully, a deal can be made.

buckrancher 2,694 #12 Posted November 21, 2009 Other than the hood. It doesn't look that bad if the price is right I would buy it I have some RJ parts also Ray I think I could fix it
Suburban 550 28 #13 Posted November 25, 2009 Well guys, the deal on the RJ has fallen through as the owner has decided not to sell. Guess he rather see it sit and rot, than see it get a good home. Oh well, I probably made out better as my wife bought this 753 for me off E-bay on Sunday as a birthday present. Don't have it home yet but I know it has a great runnin' Kohler on it. She got it for $117.50. It's no beauty queen either but I think it's alot more workable than the RJ. More pics when I get it home.
