D160 project/beater tractor

Rollerman

Picked this up about 3 weeks ago.

It's a 74 vintage with the Kohler K341 single.

Nice tight steering, trans pulls well & doesn't creep.....but!

The governor was not working.

I pulled the motor down & found the paddle on the governor shaft was faceing the wrong way.

(For those of you who have not been into a Kohler...thats the part that makes contact with the pushrod inside the gov gear to slow the engine if it over revs or speed it up if it's lugging)

I ordered up a gasket & ring set & proceeded to put things back together right.

Runs like a top now....well did before to, but it's not a screamer now.

Next I bought a 3 point from Jim M & found a box blade on Craigslist.

It actually up in the pics with 6 pounds of rear tire pressure.

I'll replace the top link with a longer one since it's adjusted out & also need to adjust up the lower arms some to level the box blade out & get a little more heigth.

I had an hour of daylight left when I got home from work....(weird!) so I went out front of the house & filled all the low spots in the gravel parking area...then to the utilities easement behind my garage to level off the dirt.

Had so much fun I didn't get off & shoot pics till after it was dark.

Next up....lights, cab, box blade rotater, heated stering wheel. (Duke just :notworthy:)

Stephen, That is far from a beater. It looks to be in great shape and sounds like it will definitely earn it's keep! Nice find and fix!

The D-Series tractors are very good workers, open to several attachments with the 3pt and have a lot of pulling power compared to the smaller units!

Thanks again for the comps.

You know today while I was digging stuff out for the Wapakoneta swap this weekend I thought about getting both the D160 "beater" & 18Auto out for some pics.

Ran short on time fixing a few things on my truck.

I will though soon enough & post some new ones.
