older 8 speed shift gate notch

on an older 8 speed shift gate, like my C-120 there is a notch between R and 1. In looking at pics there is a tab that goes there, my C-120 does not have the tab, I am wondering if I am missing anything. My 312, and the 416 I just sold had no notch.

Taking a wild guess here and trying to protect my C-Series knowledge , is the notch where the fender release tab sits? I have seen one of those notches on a shift plate somewhere. None on my C-Series of course...

If your C-120 doesn't have a flip-up fender with the latch "knob" in that slot it isn't a 1975. The '76-'77 models had solid mounted fenders with the flip-up seat.

Sweet, so it is a 76, which is what I originally thought, but something made me believe it was a 75 forget what.

What machiens had a gauge in on the same plate as the shift plate? I just got the NOS plate from a guy.
