Rollerman 290 #1 Posted November 8, 2009 A friend of mine recentley bought three NOS hoods that are kinda unusual. They appear to be 61 era for the 401 or 551, but have the later style with slots hood face? They came in a box addressed to RECO sales of Indy. He intends to list them on ebay in the near future, I'm hopeing I can talk him out of one for nothing else but a wall hanger in the shop. They are kinda out of my expertise....I'm more into the post 65 models. Anyone else seen something like this, please...we'd like to know more.
Kelly 1,033 #2 Posted November 8, 2009 I read someplace that the newer relacments used the sloted grilles, I guess just used the tooling on hand, so I'd say those where built in the mid 60's as replacements, Nice find on them, I have a NOS hood on my 603 it's kinda neet to have. Is it a second generation replacement hood and if so why re-tool, or was there a step skipped and thus a cost savings? america.gif Your exactly right! Wheel Horse had dies for the hoods but most likely used the die in the best shape for the replacment hood. If you look at a replacment hood for the Suburban series you will notice the front has the grill slots instead of the closed front that the Suburban came from the factory with.
