Dad found an old WH sitting beside a barn. The owner gave it to him and he gave it to me for parts. I dont know what model it is yet but its pretty chopped up. Here is a pic I took tonight after returning from San Diego. The motor is a tecumseh, I think?, from a sears tractor with a WH pulley.

Looks to be a '62... with a Briggs & Stratton 7 or 8hp.

Really doesn't look too bad. :notworthy:

With the kill switch in the amp gauge hole, I'd venture to say that it's a 502.

EDIT: TT beat me to it... lol

Y'all both beat me to it!

If the serial number tag is covering a hole in the hood stand (used for the starter button on the 552 and 702) then I'd say it's definitely a 502.

It reminds of an old Raider 10 that I dragged out of some woods a couple of years ago!!

What's your plans for it Steve, parts or restore?

I have to agree with everyone else that it is a 1962 502. Still looks like it has a future. :notworthy: I've seen a lot worse.

I will take a look at it today. I will be able to see it better than last night. I was planning to use the seat and steering wheel on my 864 but may still keep it together. the trans is locked up and the steering is broken. Motor was swapped out and no hood or side covers. Still no idea on what I will do.

How about some info on the 502. I looked at a couple of pics on here but dont know the particulars like motors, how many are still in out there? I dont want to tear apart something that does not have many left in the world...

I'm going with the 502 because if ti was a 702 the kohler would still be in it. :notworthy:

My 502 serial# is 62-18107 my 702 serial# is 62-4216 if that helps any.

The 502 had a HT55C 3088P Tecumseh pull start 5.5 horsepower. From what I have learned here...the 502 isn't that rare...but that engine seems to be very rare.

Most of them now have the 6.0 tecumseh's or something else.

I would be curious to know how many of the 5.5 techy's are really out there.

here is a couple pics:

Here are a few more pics taken today. The serial number tag does cover the hole in the tower.

hey Steve...your thread got me thinking about how rare the 502 may be...so I

went back through a ton of threads to see if anyone else had one listed in their signature. I did not find one!!! Not everyone lists their horses and there was one that said it was a 502 now a 702. Wonder if it would be worth a thread to ask how many 502's are out there?

I know the 702, 502 552 are the same frame and trans...trans # 5025. Only differences are the engines and the guard would be slightly different because of the pullys. A trans should be no problem to find.

Bottom line...need more input from some of the more knowledgeable members, may be worth restoring...I know parts are out there. :notworthy:

Guys,

after getting this one home and getting a better look I think it will be a doner tractor. Most everything is rusted solid, looks like the transmission has a bent shaft as far as I can tell. If anyone is looking for parts send me a PM...

Nothing better than free in my book!

It's also great to know another one has been saved and won't end up in the dreaded junk yard!

Congrats! :notworthy:

WHfan,

It wont be in the junkyard, but it will help others live. It had the organ doner checkmark on its license. This is how she looks right now...

And I called it a day...Tomorow I should have it down to just the frame. I am thinking the frame will be the start of my puller that I have wanted to build for some time. I am thinking of running in Modified Class here in Oklahoma...

ninety-nine 502's on the wall

ninety-nine 502's

take one down and pass it around

ninety-eight 502's on the wall.

No offense intended Steve, just reading the post and it poped in my head. :notworthy:

may the old girl keep some others alive  Saw you found another one,

with the 5.5...how cool is that? :WRS:
