Snow Blower - What To Look For?

Recommended Posts

Crow Horse

I've searched till my eyes were bleeding. I'm looking for a snow blower for my 1975 B-80 (short frame, from what I've read). The interchangeability list has a 37" blower listed for it, which would be fine if I could find one.

That said, firstly, what should I be looking for model-wise and secondly, what areas should I look at when buying a blower (ie. bearings, auger, etc. etc.)??

I think any attach-a-matic blower made from "73" and up should work. I bet my 1995 42" tall chute would slip right into the front attachment point on your B-80. Your main concern is if the 8hp can handle it. The newer blowers are considered 42" units with the wings bolted on the sides but I cant see any reason why you couldnt remove the wings to lessen the width and of course lessen the load on the motor.

With the short frame tractor you may need to shorten the lift tube (but I'm not sure about that).

Ok, lesson time !

Go here - Toro parts viewer

Enter your model number, in this case if the year is correct 1-0141 .

Click on "View Assembly Drawings" . This will bring up a list of drawings that cover the entire unit including a list of attachments. At this point you can look at the drawings for those attachments and figure out what bracketry is specific for that unit . Note that front attachments over the period prior to yours were different, but it's easy to convert things to make them work.

This should be a good start...

They list the blower as the 37" #6-0202.

This site- Sohar's has a great online lookup system although it's a bit complicated at times. Using your model numbers in the parts lookup link from that page under "Toro Consumer" will show many drawings, parts lists and model usage lists that are very helpful.

So, research time....!

Sarge's info is kinda right, but dont be fooled into thinking that the 1975 blower attachment that he found thru the TORO site is the only one you need to find. The blower attachment Wheel Horse made in 1977 will also work as would the blower attachment made in 1980 and so on.

The only major differance will be the lift tube which can be easily shortened(or lengthened for that matter).

I had a 1977 blower here for a few years and it spent time on 3 different tractors that were all different years. I used it on a "89" 312-8, an "83" C-125 AUTO, and a "87" 418-A. It fit all those tractors perfectly with no modifications.

Good luck in your search and when you find a blower dont be afraid to post the #'s off it or a picture and someone here will let ya know if it will work on your B-80.
