Lane Ranger 11,395 #1 Posted November 6, 2009 I am working on a snowblower set up for a 1967 Lawn Ranger Wheel Horse. I have to fabricate an idler bracket (Part no 5619 on the 6-3211 snowthower in the Manuals 7 group of wheelhorse.org) Part No 71 on the Parts List. It holds an idler pulley in front of the engine pulley. Keeps the v belt taught from the top down so it feeds tighter into the blower pulley that turns the auger. I would apprecaite any assistance with obtaining the demensions, sizes on this piece from any RedSquare members. I have all the other parts and I am looking forward to getting this ready for the coming winter. I can send a pdf document/drawing for better identification to anyone who thinks they may have one. :notworthy:
Lane Ranger 11,395 #2 Posted November 6, 2009 Let me know if you happen to have one of these old idler brackets. I would appreciate it as the process to build one is underway! :notworthy:

pfrederi 18,639 #5 Posted November 6, 2009 Hope this helps. If you want I could send you the bracket for you to copy (Need it back though) Not a rush as she isn't on snowblower duty the Ranger is my coal hauler. Didn't work out well on blower duty couldn't go slow enough
Lane Ranger 11,395 #6 Posted November 6, 2009 Paul: Two more questions for you. 1) Is that 3/4 inch offset outside to outside on the bracket piece? and 2) Also (maybe a dumb question but I was always taught to ask those) when your engine pulley is placed on your tractor is the pulley suppose to have the two open belt grooves on the outside of the engine shaft or on the inside? I have some engines with it on the inside and some on the outside and the one of my one Lawn Ranger I am using for the snowblower has the two belt grooves on the otuside. I undestand you are suppose to use the second belt groove for placing the snowblower v-belt on the engine pulley. :notworthy:
pfrederi 18,639 #7 Posted November 6, 2009 The offset I measured face to face on the side away from the pulley. Engine pulley I know it looks like 4 grooves but one isn't for belts. The way mine has always been is the single groove closest to the block and running the drive belt. The the fake groove then the 2 more v belt grooves. According to the manual for 6-3211 you use the inside groove of the outer unused pair.
Lane Ranger 11,395 #8 Posted November 6, 2009 Paul: Thank you again! My blacksmith father and my brother (and his $30 1965 Lawn Ranger) are in the shop now working on this. They called about 11:00 am and even though I posted this inquiry about the part I had no idea they were starting to work on it. You information was exactly what we needed. I appreacaite th eoffer to sent he part but I think they can do it without have the actually piece now. My brothers Lawn Ranger has the pulley on it just the opposite of what you described and since they were using it as the model a debate ensured! You don't want to debate with a blacksmith in a shop full of hammers! So my brother called to get the answers. I said I posted this on RedSquare this am and I have not had a chance to check and see if anyone had the piece and responded with the demensions. And low and behold you did and have! Thank you again! This is what makes Red Square a real asset for the whole group the whole is much greater than the individuals parts!! :notworthy:
pfrederi 18,639 #9 Posted November 6, 2009 They will need those big hammers to bend that 3/8" steel bar Glad I could help...
Lane Ranger 11,395 #10 Posted November 6, 2009 :notworthy: You tube video of the type ( not my fathers) of industrial hammer my dad uses (1.5 ton trip hammer) When that 3/8 piece is hot - it can bend like a hot knife through butter!
