bork 0 #1 Posted November 4, 2009 After reading much in archives, looks pretty straight foward.BUT when I look at my seals (still in tranny) they look so thin, like an "O"ring. Is this right? I have the cr 9815 ordered for axle & cr7410 for brake shaft. Wish they were in stock so I could look at them. (when I say "thin" , I mean the material between housing & shaft.) I'm used to seeing more metal on the seal, like 1/2 of the seal. & approx 1/4" wide, overall. BTW now I know why my slick drum wasn't holding. After cleaning, lots of meat on band, & some original paint!

All the seals on the WH trannies are pretty "thin" compared to, say, their automotive counterparts, but seem to hold up very well. However, with the small amount of metal holding the nitrile seal itself it's important to be very careful seating the new ones so as not to distort them. Just one man's experience..... tgranthamfd 29 #3 Posted November 4, 2009 I just did my brake shaft seal in my 1974 C 160-8, very thin in depth and shaft to edge, as well. Got all of the old one out, taped the new one in, no more leak. It really didn't seem like it should have sealed but it did.
bork 0 #4 Posted November 4, 2009 Thanks all! Very encouraging. Sounds like maybe I should have ordered double, for the price. The fuel & time for getting another set later would cost more .
